Bi-Monthly (Every 2nd and 4th Saturday) AnnaDaanam (Soup Kitchen/Welcome Table) Organized by the Temple – Great Sponsoring/Volunteering Opportunities.
Service which is given without consideration of anything in return, at the right place and time to one that is qualified, with the feeling that it is one’s duty, is regarded as the nature of goodness – Bhagavad Gita 17.20
Our Temple has been successfully these Soup Kitchens for the past five years.
Every 2nd Saturday: “Soup Kitchen” At the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Queens (UUCQ) located at 147-54 Ash Ave, Flushing – @ 12:30 p.m.
Every 4th Saturday: “Welcome Table” at St. George’s Episcopal Church located at 135-32 38th Ave (Corner of Main Street and 38th Avenue), Flushing – @ 1:00 p.m.
Our Temple’s delicious vegetarian food has gained quite a reputation. People line up for our food, and routinely come back for seconds and thirds!
Volunteers gather in our Cafeteria around 9:30/10:00 to wash and prepare two trays of salad. The Cafeteria prepares the other food. All the trays are then taken to the Churches.
Volunteers who help in preparing salad, and especially those who help in serving the food find it a very rewarding experience.
Participating in Soup Kitchen is especially gratifying for our youth volunteers. This seva (selfless service) attitude could get ingrained in them, building their character for the rest of their lives.
Please volunteer in this worthy cause and help the needy and to also connect with our neighbors of different faiths. Such Interfaith Outreach efforts are essential to survive and grow in this multi-cultural, multi-religious neighborhood.
