Ashta Naayika – Dance Ballet – July 1, 2017 (Saturday) – 3:00 p.m. – Auditorium

Our Temple’s 40th Anniversary will be celebrated on a grand scale from June 30 (Friday) to July 4 (Tuesday), with religious and cultural celebrations.

As a cultural celebration, Mukthambar Fine Arts Inc will be presenting ‘ASHTA NAYIKA’, a Bharatanatyam dance ballet choregraphed by Smt. Saavitri Ramanand. Concept & Choreography are by Smt. Saavitri Ramanand & Smt. Aarati Ramanand

Natya Shastra is a Sanskrit treatise on Indian performing arts, authored by Sri Bharata Muni (2nd Century B.C. – 2nd Century A.D). He describes the naayikaas as depicting various emotions and personalities of a woman through different dance padams (rhythmic steps for songs).
The Ashta Nayikas (Eight heroines) are described as women Vãsakasajja (who is ready to receive her lover), Virahotkanthita (who longs for her lover in his absence), Svadhinabhartruka (Whose lover is under her control), Kalahantarita (Who is separated from her lover due to a quarrel), Khandita (whose lover is guilty of infidelity), Vipralabdha (Who was deceived by her lover), Proshitabhãtruka (Whose lover is in a far-off place) and Abhisarika who (goes to meet her lover).

July 1 (Saturday) – 3:00 p.m. – Hindu Temple Auditorium (Community Center – adjacent to the Temple)
