There will be a total of five aasanas demonstrated. This is the second of this series.
This week’s aasana is paschimottaanaaasana (pashchima-uttaana-aasana) – Posterior Stretching Pose
Paschima means posterior and Uttaana means on. In this pose you bend the upper body over the thighs and lie on them.
Technique: Lie supine position (face up on your back) and stretch out your legs keeping them close together. Keep your leg fixed on the ground stiff without lifting or bending your knees. Stretch your hands by the side of your head close to the ears and slowly rise up without jerking. Bend the body forward at the hips, reach out for the toes with the respective hands and fingers and hold them tightly. Fold over and let forehead touch your knees, if possible.
Duration: 10 seconds to 2 minutes
Benefits: Helps reduce fat, stimulates the kidneys, liver and pancreas and also increases the peristaltic contraction of intestines. Removes gastritis and dyspepsia. Good for people with diabetes.
