WELCOME TABLE (Saturday, February 27th, 2016 at 12:30 PM) – An Initiative with St George’s Church

Our Temple introduces WELCOME TABLE – An Initiative with St. George’s Church,  a second venue for our Temple’s Soup Kitchen Interfaith Outreach Activities.

Offering of food is one of the oldest and most common rituals. It is called as “Annadanam”. It is a meritorious act connecting with the spiritual world.

All are welcome in a spirit of love to share and break bread at the table of friendship.

Our Temple has been serving delicious vegetarian food (Cooked in our own Cafeteria), at the Unitarian Church on Ash Avenue every 2nd Saturday since 2011. The food is well received and people routinely come back for seconds and thirds! Volunteers who help in preparing salad, and especially those who help in serving the food find it a very rewarding experience.

Participating in Soup Kitchen is especially gratifying for our youth volunteers. This seva  (selfless service) attitude could get ingrained in them, building their character for the rest of their lives.

Volunteers gather in our Cafeteria around 9:30/10:00 to wash and prepare two trays of salad. The food is then taken to the Church around noon to set up for the 12:30 serving.

Our Temple’s food has gained quite a reputation. People line up to partake our food.

Soup Kitchen has been a regular seva feature in our Temple for over five years (Once a month, every second Saturday, at the Unitarian Church.)

On Saturday February 27th. at 12:30, our Temple is proud to start serving food at a second venue (Every fourth Saturday, at St George’s Church on Main Street).

Please volunteer in this worth cause and help the needy and to also connect with our neighbors of different faiths. Such Interfaith Outreach efforts are essential to survive and grow in this multi-cultural, multi-religious neighborhood.
